Fly

Fly

A Poem by Breezie Kae

I see myself becoming my father,

reserved, kind, and slightly frightful,

but that’s before you get to know him,

he wouldn’t hurt a fly.

I see myself becoming my mother,

manipulative and full of power,

but I can’t call the kettle black,

I’d do anything to get ahead.

But I can’t do that and I can’t say why,

I’ve got to be my own piece of mind,

yeah, yeah,

oh, yeah, yeah.

Well it’s got to be more than history,

and I’ve got to be who I want to be,

yeah, yeah,

oh, yeah, yeah.

I see myself becoming a painter,

with sweet oils dripping from my brush,

but those oils, they don’t mix with blood,

they won’t hurt a fly.

I see myself becoming a joker,

stealing the smiles, put them on your face,

but I don’t think my thoughts are worth a cheap laugh,

you better get ‘em while they’re fresh.

But I can’t do that and I can’t say why,

I’ve got to be my own piece of mind,

yeah, yeah,

oh, yeah, yeah.

Well it’s got to be more than history,

and I’ve got to be who I want to be,

yeah, yeah,

oh, yeah, yeah.
