For Evva B.

For Evva B.

A Poem by Lizzie Madloch
"

This is a poem dedicated to my best friend in elementary school who died this past April

"

You walked your rebel feet

thud thud thudding against the cobblestones that my boots hit now.

We held hands and spoke about science in a way only little kids can-

with complete faith in our accuracy.

We were pirates in a world of nonbelievers

racing towards things that the people around us denied.

I try to recreate that now but I’ve melted into the background it seems.

Without you there’s no magic.

No world to fall through to.

My words keep falling but the only subject is you.

5 years worth of things unsaid.

A coating on your coffin.

A pity the last time we spoke

I wished you happy birthday.
