a poem to the current boyfriend

a poem to the current boyfriend

A Poem by Lizzie Madloch

The sun sets on your face

wrapped around my torso like a seatbelt against dreams,

security from all the torn up cuticle bathroom stall love poems

I wrote before falling in love with you.

Sleeping next to you is more intimate than being entered,

watching as your eyes stay closed I can never write enough poems.

I don’t change my voice with each scrape and disillusioned image

of someone who used to hold my brain with careful hands.

My poetry is honest in its one perspective way.

I love you.

I write that in my half-script.

I mean it with all my heart.
