Eyelash

Eyelash

A Poem by Marea Salice

Minding my own business

Writing down random words

Eyes on the white glossy paper

When something odd occurred

My eyes started to water

And I began to swiftly blink

Pain inflamed my right eye

Turning it a swelling pink

I rushed to the bathroom

Faced myself in the mirror

Saw the light in my eye

And leaned a little nearer

There sitting in my eye

Was a small eye lash

How could something so small

Create the pain of a slash

My back began to ache

By the time I had found it

That little sucker was tiny

But painful I had to admit

By this time my eye is red

Tears streaming steadily down

Still it was hanging on vigorously

Making me look like a clown

Eye lashes seem to have a fun

Avoiding my searching fingers

But when I finally get it out

The pesky pain still lingers
