Away From the Ledge

Don't be afraid.
I have my hand out
To pull you away
From the ledge.

I have and am the power
To be your savior.
Please, trust me
And take my hand.

Envision a new life
As you gaze into my eyes.
When away from the ledge,
You are able to start over.

The struggle
Will surely be a challenge.
But with me,
I am able to be your wings.

So, you can safely
Sail away one day.
Away from it all.
A new you.

Author's Note

Just thought about this idea and also plan to write it in the version of a short story in the next couple of days :) I hope you enjoy it and gain some inspiration!

I connect with the message of this poem. There's a sense of longing behind these words, longing to heal someone. I'm not one for critiques, sorry. I just really enjoyed it.

This seems more like a bunch of statements rather than poetry. I would have liked to see more imagery and metaphors/similes to add emotional depth to the poem itself rather than leaving it all on the theme to do that sort of work.

But this is good. I just think it needs some editing here and there. Please don't be discouraged by this review. This is merely a commentary on the writing and not you as a person. It is no reflection of your skills, either. I've made some errors even in reading responses for my Modern Fiction class that piss me off, more so because I'm getting perfect scores for pieces that have obvious grammatical errors and too many tense changes.

wow this is crazy. i recently saw a superman comic where superman has a deep conversation with a woman who is about to jump and kill herself, and he eventually talks her out of it. then, driving to school i hear the song jumper by third eye blind. and now this poem. maybe life is trying to tell me something lol.

but this is a very beautiful piece. the power to be the one deciding figure that saves another life is a larger than life feeling. nice write

Emily, this is an awesome little poem. It's so good to see a positive upbeat piece like this; there's been some great upbeat poetry coming onto the site recently and I'm happy to see that you're getting in on it.

I really enjoy the fact that this one read like it was written to be shared with someone; it connects on a personal level, offering assistance to a battered soul and provides hope and assurance that help and support are at hand. This is the kind of poem people can read and get inspiration from.

Thank you! I greatly appreciate such a review as yours. Very meaningful, they are. What made this piece flow easier was the image of a person close to me standing on a building ledge and I would have to be the one urged to go up and get them down, to save his life while firefighters and everyone else waited below in anticipation. It was a very powerful image and it inspired me to create something such as this :)
