Waiting

Today, I decided to
Spend all day in bed
Since you never bothered
To show up.
Though last night,
You were promising you'd
Be here to see me.

I sit here with the
Words stuck firm in my
Throat.
I call, no answer.
Texts, no reply.
I can't help but wonder:
Have I done something wrong?

I am at the last straw
With these delays.
Days pass and honestly,
I am not sure how much
More of this I can take.

Author's Note

My boyfriend decided to ignore me today though last night, he promised we would have the day to hang out. I am really on the last straw with this treatment. I don't deserve it!

I was going through this exact crap early this October and the waiting and the uncertainty is exhausting. You really took the thoughts from my head at the time and eloquently put them on paper and NO you don't deserve it.

Things like this are very exhausting and quite frustrating. Knowing you are putting in all of your effort for someone and canceling all your other plans in hopes of seeing them and it never happening. I mean, the other night I cancelled going out to dinner with my dad and younger sister just to see my boyfriend and he never showed up cause he claims to have fallen asleep. As many times as he's stood me up, it is certainly unacceptable and not okay. No one deserved to be treated like a doormat. Ever.

I wouldn't recommend utilizing one-word lines, unless the poem has built up enough steam for the reader to adjust. The word would have to induce such imagery by itself, standing alone it could paint an entire canvas. Unfortunately, I don't think "throat" would be categorized as such. However, this is very well written and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

P.S. It sucks that your boyfriend is ignoring you so, though I wouldn't think much on it. I know it's probably not my place to say, but sometimes, people can get extremely busy, and it may be just an unlucky set of circumstances. That being said, I hope it can be reconciled.

Indication that your heart is very slowly realizing this, the heart is
