Can We Just Forget?

Can We Just Forget?

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Can we simply say
The past never happened?
Can we just forget it
And move on?

Can we simply say
We tried our best?
Can we just forget it
And move on?

Can we simply say
We were okay?
Can we just forget it
And move on?

Can we simply say
We were nothing?
Can we just forget it
And move on?

I like the flow of this poem. The past is something that we can't forget. Perhaps fool ourselves into thinking we've forgot. But forgetting the mistakes and pains of the past would mean repeating the same mistakes, feeling the same pain over and over again. We are told we need to move on. As if it were so easy, as if no one knows the impossibility of such a gesture.
