Prisoner

Prisoner

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Don't bring me here
To ruin the show.
Let me know I can breathe words.
The letter sounds.
The very rhythm of language.
Help me grow, come alive.

I regret resting in the shadows.
I felt like a prisoner, caged.
A princess trapped in the tallest tower
With no such prince to save her.
It's time to emerge.

Panicking,
The flow of simple words arrived
Just in time.
Lifting me up to the sky
As if I were a feather.
I was no longer a prisoner.

This piece has multiple meanings for me. Writing frees you from bonds of obscurity, and can heal you too. The words get trapped inside our minds and when we finally pen them, they are free and so are we.
