I Made It

I Made It

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

I wanted to write
Day and night.
Every minute until my
Heart stopped.
I couldn't breathe
Anymore.

I wanted to push
The boundaries of my being.
Imagining the bullet travel through my brain.
Pictured shredding open my skin.
Feeling each pill run down my throat.
I wanted to embrace death.

I wanted to tackle
Life my own way.
Don't give me the gun or bullet.
Don't bother sliding the knife towards me.
Wash the pills down the sink.
I won't accept any of them.

I wanted to live
To wake up tomorrow.
Seeing my face in the mirror.
Having my family and friends.
Believing in myself.
Just smile, I made it!
