Burning It Down

Burning It Down

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Alex Toff was the local waiter.
Taking orders and presenting food.
Day and day out.
How exceptional everyone thought he was!

Monica Grey was a weekly customer.
Alex was always thrilled to take her order.
He would catch her smiling at him
Boldly from across the cafe.

She gave him her number and
They met up regularly.
Soon enough, they could get
Enough of each other.

Together two long years, he proposed.
She said yes, they both couldn't be happier.
Though a wise source leaked to dear Alex
That precious Monica had been getting busy on the side.

He kept from her what he knew.
Rung up her cell and asked
For her to come over.
She had no idea what he planned to do.

He told her it was the perfect night.
And that he had a surprise in store.
He led her to the bed, tied her up
And told her to close her eyes.

In his chest, his heart pounded.
He smiled as he lit the match.
Dropping it on the bed.
Leaving her to burn with her mistakes.

He silently walked away as
The house itself, burned.
Her along with it.
All of it, gone.

I Am Svetlana
"You were told to run away
Soak the place, and light the flame
Pay the price for your betrayal
Your betrayal, your betrayal!"
