Tell Me About...

Tell Me About...

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Tell me about
That one time long ago.
That time you asked that girl out
And she kindly said no.
You had that crooked grin
And that ridiculous fro.
There wasn't much else
She had to know.

Tell me about
That place not too far.
That place where you bought that girl
A single candy bar.
You wore an out-of-date Hawaiian shirt
And also, had no car.
It didn't take much
For her to go away, and far.

Tell me about
That place which represents.
That place where you proposed to that girl
And she smiled to say yes.
You had on your new shiny shoes
And a butterfly heart in your chest.
For this story,
That was the rest.

Ahh, you've done it again! Another beautiful poem. Love the physical descriptions, I can imagine the "you," of the poem being unkempt, maybe a little awkward, but someone with so much heart and so much affection to give going through the throes of unrequited attraction and rejection and finally finding that emotional connection they've pined after for years. I love how the theme in so much of your work revolves around biding time for the universe to reward you with the most beautiful gift that you may have least expected. So uplifting.
