Often

Often

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Often, we cried about the boys who didn't love us,

The ones we loved too much, but couldn't have.

Often, we were toying with the idea of hair dye and suicide,

Hoping both would be the solution to our problem.

Often, we never bothered trying to love anyone else,

Just the boys were all we could think about.

Often, we simply thought love would help us

Speak to the Underworld.

Often, we would try fixing the shattered glass within our minds,

Only ending up with more shards than expected.

Often, we would lie on our beds, wishing to die.

Only having the thought of love to keep us alive.

Hey, interesting, dark poem, I felt lots of teenage angst. I really like the line

"Often, we simply thought love would help us
Speak to the Underworld."

Love this!!! Captures quite eloquently how it feels to be one of those kids, full of foolish love n unneccesary despair.
