Some chilling thoughts about road kill that I've really never thought of before until my trip last week.,
As I rode in the car to and from Louisiana, I eyed the side of the road for dead animals. Road kill, as most would call it. To be honest, I saw quite a bit and most images still disturb me. Those that send uncomfortable shivers down my spine.
As we continued to drive past dead animals left and right, a chilling thought entered my mind: what if some of those animals were still alive? From afar, they may look motionless and already dead, but what if a few of them were just injured and still struggling for life?
It pains me to know that most people wouldn't bother to check if some road kill may still be alive, may still have a chance for a better life...if it were a person laying on the side of the road, I'm sure they would get immediate attention. But for animals, people already assume Death has taken them to a better place and left their bodies for us to deal with.
So pick up your shovel and pull over, it'd time to scrape the dead animals off the road.,
ugh heartbreaking for I love every animal...I happen to see so much of this along side of my country road out to the city and it saddens me to think that they might actually be alive still... now I am going to never get to my appointments when I pack a shovel in my trunk and stop every five minutes. :( Your thoughts here though have a deeper meaning for me, for just like those poor animals smashed on the side of our roads, that we do not give a second glance too, what else in life do we not let into our hearts due to the sadness those thoughts provoke. So many things I am afraid... world events, hopeless situations for the less fortunate... abuse and violence, it is an endless list. Yet opening our eyes means opening our hearts and that is something many do not want to do. Wonderful thought provoking write Svetlana...

I didn't expect to get such lengthy reviews on this, but I am glad some are able to understand. Some see them as more than animals, but what about those who aren't animal lovers? Would they think they were 'just animals'? And yes, humanity has reached such a surprising low I believe. Disasters happen too often now, more and more people die daily over silly mistakes or reasons that most don't understand nor bother to explain. And just think...it'll only get worse as the years continue on.

I try my best to write all I can :) talk to you again soon and feel free to drop by anytime :)
wow this is quite sad, thinking about how humanity has (inevitably, but still) come to the point of us not caring anymore. Even about humans, not just animals nowadays. Look at all the violence, whether they be accidental or deliberate, it's done and the damage is well and truly done. It's so sad to see that people don't clean up the mess they've made. It's made me more and more uncomfortable to live amongst other people who don't care about what's just happened.
It appalls me to read your poem, and realise what you say is correct: what if they were still alive? A grotesque thought, and very, very sad. Great write, I love how this poem smacks you in the face with the reality of what our world has turned into.

And yes, humanity has dropped to such a low and has lessened it's respect for animals. It was strange writing this cause I've never thought of road kill this way. That perhaps some could still barely be hanging on. It's a bone-chilling thought, yet has so much truth to it. People need to step back and begin to take into account of their actions and take active responsibility! Thanks again for your wonderful and lengthy review, it really means a lot :)

Road kill is just like running over humans, and not stopping afterwards, isn't it? Except animals instead of humans. Just like you said in the passage, would you stop if they were humans?
Yes, some could be hanging on still, such sad truth. Loved it!

I feel humanity disrespects animals and their value, but they are able to love anyone unconditionally, even those who get abused and abandoned.,

Yes, that is what is so special about them. Unconditional love, to everyone, as long as humans love them back.
