Paper Faces

Paper Faces

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

I'm so drained from this town.
Always passing those with paper faces.
I slunk off to the sewer below
In hopes of gaining back sanity.

Instead, I dropped my heart into the water
And watched it float on down the tunnel.

Playful, daring.
Not anymore.
I surely was not close to that.
Embracing sadness,
Insides shredding beyond belief.
Nothing balanced out.

Would this categorize me
As just another paper face?

Evocative imagery. To me, it spoke of the masks we all wear in public. But, then it went further, holding up a mirror to reflect the masks we peer at ourselves through.

Loved that. Very powerful, and very well-written; your words have clearly been carefully chosen, each having its own connotations. I really like the concept in itself as well.
