Love Take Over

"You're so beautiful."
A flash of love haunts me,
begging him to mean it.

I knew of the letter
he wrote to her,
the other woman.

He had turned the tables.
The love I dreamed of
was no more than a nightmare.

I had tried to play it right.
Even lied about my date.
No way our love could be soothing.

What a waste,
trying to get him to surrender.
No use in being committed.

Submitting to shame,
we both knew better now
to let love take over.
