"You're Beautiful (When You Cry)"

I saw her yesterday,

the girl with tears in her eyes.

She had pure golden hair,

but her mind churned with lies.

Surrounded by never-ending whys.

I wanted to remind her:

"Darling, there's no tellin' why,

but you're beautiful when you cry."

I saw them today,

the children with tears in their eyes.

They had to run and hide,

to flee from the dangerous spies.

No one knew they would try.

I wanted to remind them:

"Child, there no tellin' why,

but you're beautiful when you cry."

I watched her the other day,

the mother with tears in her eyes.

Trying to put on such a disguise,

to meet those dirt guys.

Lord knows, she ever got a prize.

I always wanted to remind her:

"Baby, there is no tellin' why,

but you're beautiful when you cry."

I saw myself this morning,

the girl with tears in her eyes.

Swearing the mirror couldn't lie.

Couldn't find a place to hide.

Wouldn't wear a disguise. 

Should I get a prize?

I always had to remind myself:

"Emily, there's no tellin' why,

but you're beautiful when you cry."

In my opinion the rhymes may be overdone; if nothing else because of how much you use the same scheme... and it makes some of the lines come across forced. Still I really dig the way you begin and end the stanzas. This is certainly a sentiment I can share. I remember being close to this one girl who always tried to smile, even though life was always screwing her over. It always tugged at my heart seeing her like that... then one day her composure broke, and it was simply beautiful. I felt a bit weird, like there was something wrong with me... but for the first time she felt so real, and I wanted nothing more than to kiss her. Meh, never said I was normal... I have a skewed sense of aesthetics.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed this. I wrote it earlier today in just a few minutes. I had the last two lines of each paragraph stuck in my head since last night, so I felt it would come out pretty. I also just threw in the ending stanza last minute, so I feel it's not as good as the others, but feel it sums up the poem well.
