All I Am

All I am
is a dangerous soul,
just waiting for whatever.
Just waiting for someone
to listen to me.
I stay hungry for
strength & destruction.
I am a lot like
the lovely old
lonely lighthouse,
perched upon a cliff,
viewing the visual world.
I'm an untouchable girl,
building a new world.
This is
all I am.

It's difficult for others to hear you when you're afraid to speak up. I know this from experience. WR is a good place to start, you don't have to look at peoples faces when you express your innermost thoughts.

Thank you! This means a lot. I've never been good at speaking in front of people...I usually get too nervous & start laughing or shaking. I get panic attacks when I give public speeches, so I try my best to avoid them. Writing has really helped me develop my inner voice & become more confident in myself.

I once had to give the graduation speech in front of a stadium full of people. Talk about nervous.
But once I got started things worked out ok. I hate public speaking.

I always praised those who never had a problem making speeches or class reports. I would feel so prepared, then make a fool of myself when I was up there. There was one time in a history class where we had to make a speech on a debate report we did, I got up there & started off fine for a few minutes, then I looked around at everyone and froze up. I began to stutter, then giggle, I tried to close my eyes and control my breathing. My sister even looked at me, mouthing to me that I was okay, that I could do this. But I just kept laughing whenever I tried to talk, then a student laughed, soon enough, the entire class was laughing in front of me. I began to shake and didn't know what to do...just wishing it would stop, but it wouldn't. Once it did, I composed myself and did my best to finish my report. When it was over, I was so close to crying and I could barely breathe...I told my mom about how it went when I got home & she just mentioned how embarrassing my laughing was...like she was disappointed in me, instead of being proud of how much it took for me to get through it.

Those are the times I hate most. The old anxiety attack grabs you by the neck and yanks you around. You wish you could run and hide, but, where would you go?
I feel for you and hope you can overcome this dreadful thing.

Thank you & my job in a bookstore as a cashier has helped me learn how to talk to people more and deal with unhappy customers. I still have some work to do, but I've been doing better. Slowly, but surely. I don't have as many panic attacks at work as I did at my first job, but some days are better than others. Thanks again. Your words surely know how to comfort me. Also, glad you are able to relate to the anxiety thing.

I like how you began the poem with the same line that you ended it. It really added a lot of meaning and clarification to the piece. The lines "I'm an untouchable girl/building a new world" was a very good description. Nice work.

Thank you! I sometimes start and end a poem with the same line, I guess it helps me form the poem as like a boomerang. So perhaps the reader can read the poem both backwards & forwards.
