An Art Like This

Art is dangerous.
It takes lifetimes to create,
but seconds to destroy.

An art like this...
an art like mine,
it helps me breathe
when I feel weak.
It tells me to know
my own darkness
when I'm so close
to breaking.

An art like this...
an art like mine,
that emerges when
not everyone you love
is able to look within
to witness the chaos
inside a fragile brain.

An art like this...
an art like mine...
is truly the most dangerous kind.

Author's Note

No matter what I write, be it good or bad, I never throw it out. Everyone writes differently & I understand that we are our own worst critic, but throwing what you think is "bad writing" away, is never the best idea. If I don't like how a piece turned out, I just put it in a folder & return to it sometime later in the week. Any ideas I have for short stories or novels, I keep those in a folder too, even if their ideas don't thrill me at the time. If you throw your "bad writing" away, you may never get the chance to go back and write it the way you wanted to. Luckily with writing, there is always room to revise and fix a poem to just the way you imagined it in your head. Don't beat yourself up & throw all your writing away, they could someday turn into masterpieces if ever you decided to go back and fix them up.
