Sheltering Within

Sheltering Within

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

In a deep, innocent sleep,
I am sheltering within dreams.
Waiting for the dark to disappear,
as I open a labyrinth of printed letters
which would chase my nightmares away.

As a fine, whispering rain falls,
I am sheltering within a paperback book.
The sound of pages turning
might scorch my tongue,
but it still tells its story to me.

Over a smoldering battlefield,
I am sheltering within the one who deserved my loyalty.
We, as two lovers who cherished
the glossy lights of day.
Inflict the pleasure upon us, oh please!

Like a distant memory,
I am sheltering within invitingly open pages.
I was once a blank piece of parchment,
but learned to devour my demons
and survive each following night.
