Endangered Souls

Endangered Souls

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

I realized with horror
one more moment
did not seem ready
to disappear, but
would soon be no more.
Within the absence of beauty,
nothing was right.
I thought those days were over,
but grew accustomed to disappointment
and it wasn't possible to run away.

Once I saw the black carriage
led by proud horses,
I somehow knew
our very souls
were in much danger.
We tried to say goodbye,
but they were never easy.
Entrusting our lives
to a lonely village,
to those who had no ability
to see what was beyond.
