Cross My Heart

I never knew the meaning of a broken heart,

but without you, it's been unbearably difficult.

Constant nail biting--quite an unpleasant sound.

I wish there had been another way

to undo everything we've done.

It's not your fault, but I've been wandering

aimlessly among the space where I wish upon stars.

I wish I didn't have

this hole in my mind.

I want to lock you in a box

and place you in a gutter

where you belong.

I have to steady myself

to what you've said,

then attend to all previous

unfinished tasks on my list.

Cross my heart

and hope to die.
