My Idiot Mistake

My Idiot Mistake

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

I don't want me

To fail

Because of you not being here.

I know I can grow

From this.

I need to burn

Every picture of you.

So then your face

Will be gone.

Then I can let go

And forget about you.

I trusted your every lie.

I always came back.

Always thinking you would change.

Each time

You stayed the same.

And I was left

Looking like an idiot.

and as her tears trickled down her cheeks and over the photo of her lover clasped faithfully in her hands, there was solace in the knowledge he was happy where he was and his happiness would forever be entwined with the ethereal love she knew she'd given him before he'd left.
