The Loan Road 3

The Loan Road 3

A Story by I Am Svetlana

I didn’t know what was up with Julia the next day at school, but she wasn’t acting like herself. Everytime I tried to talk to her, she just ignored me. No eye contact, nothing. I knew she couldn’t be mad at me because I haven’t exactly done anything directly towards her. Maybe it was something else that was bothering her. So I decided to find out.

So after third period, I stood at her locker because I knew she went to her locker after every class to drop certain things off. As I noticed her walking, she didn’t look as if she was in her normal, happy mood. Something was definitely wrong. She hesitated in approaching her locker because she saw me, but approached it, opened it and started unloading her backpack. Taking things out, putting things in.

“Uh, hey. Is something wrong?” I chimed in, trying to start a conversation.

“Why don’t you go ask Lynn. Oh wait, she’s not here,” she responded sarcastically. I didn’t understand.

“Are you okay?” I asked, again trying to get a normal response out of her.

“Why don’t you go kill yourself? That’s what Lynn did.” she responded again.

“What are you doing?” I asked her. She didn’t respond. Still rustling papers and organizing for her next class. She was about to walk past me when I grabbed her arm.

“Listen, I didn’t do anything. I don’t understand why you’re mad.” I announced to her.

“Your girlfriend died about a month ago, Jake. You can’t just move onto a new girl so quickly in that short amount of time. Yeah, I gave you a blowjob, but it meant nothing.” She finally gave a clear response.

“What do you mean it meant nothing?” I asked questionably.

“I don’t like you like that, okay? I don’t even know why I did it, I was caught in the moment.” She continued.

     “But it was good, right?”

“Listen, Jake. It was a one-time thing, it meant nothing. I don’t like you like that. At all. You’re too different from me. Plus, your girlfriend died a short while ago and you’re acting as if it never happened.” She added.

“But it’s better to move on then mourn and grieve all the time thought,” I responded, not sure if it was the best answer.

“But you can’t just be doing what you’re doing. You can’t just get other girls to like you, especially a girl like me. Because we know the big event that happened, we know how close she was to you. Everyone does. And to be honest, you’re acting like a d****e about it,” She answered. I recoiled.

“How am I being a d****e about it?” I replied. I was starting to get angry.

“Hm, let’s see: Lynn called you and wanted you to come over when she knew something bad was gonna happen. That was the night she needed you, Jake. Everyone

knows that, even you. But no, instead of hanging out with her, a concert with George is more important,”

“He already had tickets and it was my favorite band.” I explained. But of course, it wasn’t good enough.

“Jake, choosing a concert of your favorite band over your own girlfriend who KNOWS she going to kill herself if you aren’t there? To me, that’s pretty shallow. Any guy would’ve chosen their girlfriend over their favorite band, despite if they already got tickets or not.” She explained, getting aggravated with me.

“Yeah, but…” I began to add, but she had the bigger voice.

“You know what, Jake? There’s obviously no reasoning with you and your brain is obviously not working if you can’t seem to organize and realize what I am trying to say to you.” She added and started to walk. “I have to get to class.” She walked off and out of sight.

And so, I was left standing alone in the hallway. Alone and by Julia Martin’s locker.
