Lessa and TragedyA Poem by I Am SvetlanaThe people stop and stare At this poor girl. She passes down the street with a swollen face. Showing her husband's rage. In life, she had to get out. Only, she felt stuck.
(Chorus): No one knows why she stayed Perhaps the tears told her to. She held out as long as she could, But everyone knew she deserved better.
Each night, she would cry herself to sleep. It was sign that she had to leave. One day, she did. But soon after, she came back. She knew she couldn't let him go.
(chorus)
She spoke to no one as she passed on by. Her eyes set in focus on the world before her. Heels tapping the ground, telling a story.
(chorus)
No one knows when they saw him last. Perhaps he went away and left her alone. The woman walks that street everyday. Her heels always telling her story.
