I Was the Key to Your Death

I Was the Key to Your Death

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Let me be your air
When you fall short of breath.

Don’t leave me like this.
It’s nothing like I wanted.
Nothing I had ever dreamt.

I wanted to help
But you were so close to the edge.

I did nothing but encourage you
To step off.

I offered myself to you
Only to show how much I cared.

I never wanted you to go.
To leave me here without you.

You stepped away
And disappeared from sight.

And it was all my fault because
I was the key to your death.
