My People

My People

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

The people bow down as

I enter the land.

I spread my arms wide.

The crowd cheers.

They honor me.

Accept me.

These are my people.

They love me.

Support me.

Fight for me.

These are my people.

I made this nation.

They entered when they were poor and broken.

I brought them back to health.

These are my people.

When I am away

They protect the land, guard it.

Watching the night for any different stars.

Searching for the stars to connect them to me.

These are my people.

I will always love them, my people.

I will always respect them, honor them.

Like they have done with me.

These are who they are.

These are my people.
