She Remembers

She Remembers

A Poem by Daniel Parker
"

A follow up to He Remembers.

"
I remember the fruits of our childhood,
How you captured my heart with your smile,
I remember the field with the daisies,
And we'd laugh and we'd play all the while,
I remember our first conversations,
How the words were so perfect and real,
I remember how softly you'd spoken,
And how happy those words made me feel.

I remember those teenage obsessions,
All those letter of love; those I miss,
I remember I'd read them with eyes teary,
And each note would be sealed with a kiss,
I remember the nights when we cuddled,
With a movie we'd seen through and through,
I remember those moments; so perfect,
Every second I cherished with you.

I remember our school graduation,
All those wonderful things that you said,
I remember you looking so handsome,
Every compliment went to your head,
I remember the fear that I'd lose you,
I was scared that you'd simply forget,
I remember you saying you'd catch me,
That our future was so firmly set.

I remember the years pass like seconds,
Yet each day seemed so fresh, crisp and new,
I remember you took me to dinner,
In that shirt that looked tacky and blue,
I remember that champagne; expensive,
Then you pulled out that beautiful ring,
I remember I cried as you asked me,
Saying yes and then wanting to sing.

I remember the day of our wedding,
How my hair wouldn't sit in it's place,
I remember the nerves I was feeling,
But I only need picture your face,
I remember the tears and the laughter,
As we whispered those to little words,
I remember that sense of completion,
But just feeling amazing; absurd.

I remember confirming the cancer,
How I knew that my days were now few,
I remember the thoughts of the children,
And the toll it would take out on you,
I remember the days felt so lonely,
But you always had managed to smile,
I remember the nights were so painful,
Yet you'd comfort me through every mile.

I remember the pain and the heartache,
When I told you I loved you that day,
I remember the tears in their faces,
As the children watched me slip away,
I remember how happy you've made me,
All the laughter, the love and the glee,
I remember; forever and always,
For my love, I have now been set free.

I’m in love with ‘their’ love! I think it’s incredible how you told the same story twice for two perspectives…the way the detail was different. Showing how men and women see things differently…remember moments differently and value things differently. But not too different, subtle differences! Magical! Again I found myself smiling at the end…but with a love like that who wouldn’t. Any and all sadness is drowned up by such love…
“I remember; forever and always,
For my love, I have now been set free.”
Sigh…beautiful!!
