The Lotus That Landed on My Nose

The Lotus That Landed on My Nose

A Poem by Emilia Svejda
"

A short poem about a seemingly mundane yet transformative experience.

"

That day, standing there in the sun, looking up at the clouds,

A white lotus floated down from the sky and landed on my nose.

I couldn’t help but feel surprised when the little gentleman broke me from my daydreaming.

I took him from my face and held him in my hands.

I looked at him with question mark eyes, and he tipped his hat.

“Didn’t mean to give you a fright, madam.”

Then he took from my hands and floated up to the heavens again.

A daydream tried to settle in as I watched him go, but he had thoroughly roused me.

something in nature usually alerts us to the reality that all around us is such beauty...
it makes us notice...interrupts us from our crazy world....
a special moment...
My father was engineer...and here I was, his opposite chasing my degree in English and writing poetry.

This is sweet. Reads as if it could be an excerpt from a children's story. Very cute.
