A Poem by Emilia Svejda
"

trigger warning

"

I stepped in from the rain

And hung my umbrella next to yours,

Still hanging.

I wandered into our front room

And noticed our wedding photos,

Still hanging.

I fell on the couch

And glanced to the tension in the air beside me,

Still hanging.

I had been hungover for 40 hours,

And despite a coffee and a handful of Tylenol, I was

Still hanging.

I fought the memory

And yet I can’t unsee you in our bedroom

Still hanging.

What a devastating portrait of loss. Grief can be such a huge, smothering experience, how does one begin to write about it? Yet you have taken just a handful of words, and written about ordinary, everyday things, but in brilliant way that makes the reader partner to your feelings. Very well written, my friend, well done!
