A Poem by Emily B
"

just a little thought I found in my notepad this morning

"

Somewhere

in the center

of a Universe too broad

for reckoning

is one pea-size thought

I haven't found yet.

It states wonderfully what is perhaps the 800-pound gorilla in the room for all writers; that we have these little snatches of epiphany which we try to weave into a coherent whole, yet the universe--the one of thought, belief, and idea as well as the physical one-- is just too large, too incomprehensible for us to wrestle to the grounds. This is actually a pretty damn big thought, and very nicely expressed.

I like what our friend WK said, "This is actually a pretty damn big thought, and very nicely expressed."

My guess is we have many thoughts floating out there. Let's go find 'em!

You will have to let me know when you find it. I am sure you will. This you will find used as a quote on the frontispiece of someone's great novel some time in the future.

Simple yet complexed statement.... it is amazing how a thought can just appear just like that, got to admire the human mind.

You've captured the scope of the vastness, and related it to the personal. The thought of this tickles my imagination.

P.S. Keep looking for that thought. It's searching for you, too!

This is the mastery of poetry: the brevity and depth at once. I loved how you express this immense huge universe on 7 lines. Truly, a confecionery of delight. I love you.

I love this poem. The contrast of such sizes: the incredibly large: 'a Universe/too broad for reckoning' and the microscopic, 'one/pea-size thought'. It is so succinct and imagistic. I adore it.

ah hah, but you know it's there...
It's only pea-sized by your comparison to the vast...
In fact, it's a big BIG thought as you are already aware of it...
the 'Princess and the Pea' ? Oh that troublesome pea!
