Calling Names

Calling Names

A Poem by Emily

My Sister Who For

35 Years Called Me

          Emmy

Now Calls Me Emily

- Jennifer!

Instead Of Jenny

                How Do You Do?

While Spending 3 Weeks Flirting

With A Sexy Man From Work

                      I Have   An Epiphany

That  I  Am                    Faking It

So I Tell Him A Horrible            Story Of Myself

And Get No                   Reply

Like Finally

Just Reaching Down And Pulling A Wedgie Out

Maybe He Thought I Was Predictable?

                                  And He Had Me

Figured Out

Like All The Women

        Who Want Him

And Chase Him

And Beg To Have Him

          But     That Is Not Me

      He Never Says My Name

I Am Going

To Spend The Rest Of This Afternoon

Shopping

For Sundresses And Cheap Beaded Necklaces

From The Mexican Woman Down The Street

While Wearing No Bra

          And Telling Everyone

My Name Is

                      Emmy Or Em,

                                           Not Emily
