super manuialA Poem by Rose DowningThis was what I was going to use to inspire people to join me in a superhero club.Part One: Meterman Hello from my Temple of Solos. From the depths of an area no one should go, I bid thee hello. Hello from the frontal lobe of a delusional psycho. Hello from the heart of a hero, and from the intrigue of a lonely nerd I bid thee hello. I am the death of apathy. The birth of “pay it forward.” Savior from grief, and defender of any who dare park their cars. Stop the unwitting boot of society! I’m a maniac. I’m an idea. I’m Meterman. --- Part Two: Philosophy of a Superhero How many times have you walked by a situation you could have improved? Have you ever passed a meter, noticed the time had run out, and thought, they’re probably getting a ticket? Did you say, “Dumb fu%* got it coming”? Or maybe, “Poor fella... oh well.” I bet you had at least a dime in your pocket when it happened. Sure, it’s not your responsibility. And maybe it’s technically illegal. So is jaywalking. So is tackling someone who’s stealing a bike. Hell, if someone breaks into your home and injures himself, he can sue you. What's good and what's legal aren't always the same thing. That dime could save someone sixty to five hundred bucks. There are thousands of small acts that don’t endanger you but still matter. Putting a dime in a stranger’s meter takes seconds. And it feels good. You don’t have to believe me just try it. This isn’t about vigilante justice. Anger creates anger. Violence breeds violence. That’s not a solution it’s a shortcut. To solve a problem, you’ve got to trace it to its source. Walking past a homeless person and saying, “Get a job,” won’t fix anything. Tossing change is a band-aid it may even prolong the wound. But helping someone find work? Connecting them to housing? That’s action. You don’t need hours. You need heart. If you claim you don’t have time, you’re probably wrong. If you simply don’t care, then you are the problem. Everyone wants someone to fix the broken world. We’ve been calling for a superhero since forever. I’m just trying to make a ripple of good and praying enough people ride the wave until it becomes a tsunami. What are you doing with your life? Can you put down the Xbox long enough to look around at the sh17hole we live in? Plant some flowers in it. Breathe some fresh air. --- Part Three: A Hero’s Code of Honor 1. Never lie, cheat, or steal. 2. Always look for what good you can do. 3. Use non-aggressive tactics but stop all scumbags. 4. Compassion is mightier than anger. 5. Be a positive role model kids mirror what they see. 6. Always remember to PROTECT YOUR IDENTITY. © 2025 Rose DowningAuthor's Note
