Chapter 5A Chapter by EricaCooperTHE NEXT DAY Jack was waiting for me in front of my locker. I quickly kissed him on the cheek and moved him out of my way so I could get my books. He stood next to my locker. “Ally what would you think if we went out this weekend”, Jack asked me cautiously. “Like on a date?” “Of course like on a date! What other kind of going out is there”, he said laughing. “We haven’t gone a date since we first started dating”, I said. “Well I know. I want to make it up to you. Plus it’ll be fun” “Ok”, I said slowly. “So Friday I’ll pick you up at 7 sharp”, he said grinning, “Plus it’s me, you, Lucas and Courtney.” “WAIT WHAT!!!” I screamed, drawing attention to Jack and myself. “Allison calm down”, Jack said calmly, “I know you hate them but Luke is one of my best friends and he and Courtney are going through a tough patch right now. Please just deal with them for one night. For me?” “Fine”, I said through gritted teeth. Jack kissed me lightly on the lips and then disappeared down the hall. I sighed and got my books and walked to my first period class. FRIDAY NIGHT I sat on my mother’s bed until she had decided what I should wear to my date of course we all know I would be ‘yes mother’ and then choose my own outfit, which was already sitting out on my bed. Ally’s outfit:http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=17738887 Courtney’s outfit: http://www.polyvore.com/courtneys_outfit/set?id=17613676 I was not looking forward to tonight. My plan: keep near Jack and only talk to Jack. When 7:00 rolled around I was patiently waiting for Jack to pull up. When I saw Jack’s car rolling up I started to feel better about tonight. That is until I saw Luke sitting in the passenger seat and Courtney in the back. Courtney already looked like she was ready to kill someone, so I took my time coming out. Even though we had had our sweet moment, I still hated her and I could tell she still hated me. I laughed to myself as I got in. Jack looked at me from his rearview mirror. “Ally you look amazing”, he said smiling. He elbowed Luke to follow suit. “Um…yea….um….you look nice Courtney”, Luke said unsure. You could tell he didn’t compliment her much the way he was acting. Jack could sense it too, because he quickly changed the subject. “So how was everyone’s day”, he said awkwardly. “Mine was great. Thanks for asking”, Luke said. “You two are such losers”, Courtney said suddenly. I could tell by her tone of voice that she didn’t mean it nicely. “Courtney chill”, I started getting mad, “They’re trying to be nice to your stuck up, preppy butt. So just shut up and enjoy that someone actually wants to spend time with you.” Courtney sat silently and looked out the window, knowing I was right. Jack looked at me in the rearview mirror again and rolled his eyes. Luke, on the other hand, looked straight at me and smiled, while mouthing a thank you. We arrive ten minutes later at Pierre’s, a fancy French restaurant. As soon as the car was parked, Courtney got out and started walking. She screamed for Lucas to come and of course he followed her like a lost puppy. Jack walked to my side and helped me out, holding my hand the whole way there. “Listen, babe, thanks for doing this tonight. I promise if you get annoyed with Courtney, or Lucas, or even me, I will take you home immediately. All you have to do is get up and take your stuff.” “Oh trust me; I won’t even have to say anything. You’ll know when I get annoyed.” He laughed and kissed me lightly. We walked in to the restaurant, only to find that Courtney and Luke had already gotten a table. “I’m expecting you to pay, Lucas”, Courtney was saying as we approached the table. I rolled my eyes and I could feel Jack tighten his hand around mine. I looked at him, but he just mouthed ‘be good’. I rolled my eyes again and sat down next to Jack in the booth. He put his arm around my shoulder and watched as Luke tried to do the same thing to Courtney. He failed. As soon as he tried, she pushed his arm off her. I really didn’t understand Courtney sometimes. When we were younger, we would talk about the perfect boyfriends. We had both found them, but she was treating Luke like crap. 45 MINUTES LATER. I had sat through 45 minutes of Courtney and Luke arguing. Every time Luke tried to compliment Courtney, she would say don’t bother. Jack could tell I was getting annoyed. My only stress reliever was squeezing Jack’s hand under the table, but he didn’t seem to mind. “Alright”, I said getting up, “I’m done. Jack, take me home.” “Ally come on”, Jack said calmly,” sit down. I’ll take you home later.” “No, Jack, now. You promised that if I got annoyed with anyone, you’d take me home. Well I’m annoyed.” “Just give it a few more minutes, Ally.” “Are you going to take me home?” “No.” “Fine then I’ll walk home.” “Ally, don’t do this”, Jack said. “Do what? Leave? Too late”, I said storming out. I started walking the four miles back to my house. I had walked about ten minutes when I realized I didn’t want to go home; I wanted to go my special place. © 2016 EricaCooper |
