Chapter 6

A Chapter by EricaCooper

I arrived at the pond less than five minutes later. It was deserted, just the way I liked it. I sat under the oak tree that was right at the end of the pond. My dad showed me this spot before he died. I brought Luke here when we were dating and he loved it. I never brought Jack here because I was afraid he would say something bad about my place that would cause a fight. I lay in the grass and was looking up at the stars. I was thinking about my dad and this time when we were here and he….

“I thought I’d find you here”, Luke said interrupting my thoughts.

“What are you doing here?”

“You ran out and I can understand why”, he said laughing.

“What about your date?”

“Eh I just told Jack to take Courtney home because I had an emergency that I had to deal with at home.”            Strangely, I was glad it was Luke who was here and not Jack.”Are you okay?”

“Yeah I guess. I came here and I was thinking about my dad.”

“Oh really”, Luke said, sitting down.

“Yeah. Now I feel bad about ruining your date.”

“Don’t be. It was bound to be ruined anyway.” I could feel Lucas leaning in, so I met him halfway. As soon as our lips touched, I saw Jack face in my head and automatically pulled away.

“I’m sorry”, Luke said, “It was my fault.” I nodded, shocked. Jack face was still in my mind and all I could think about was that I had just cheated on my boyfriend, but then I remembered everything bad Jack had ever done to me. And suddenly anger overcame guilt. Luke was still babbling on, but I stopped him by leaning over and kissing him. I could tell I had caught him by surprise, but it didn’t take him long to recover. We sat there and held onto each other for a good ten minutes, until he was standing up and pulling me up along with him. We started to walk out of the pond area. He grabbed my hand and held onto it until we started talking. We talked about anything and everything the two or three miles back to my house. We talked about school and trees, he called me a tree hugger and I called him a tree hater. He laughed at me and I laughed at him. When we finally got to my house he stopped me before I could walk up my walkway. He kissed me again and then followed me inside and into my room.
