Love/ Surrender/ Fear

I don't want to conform. But is the price I have to pay that love that I have so longed for.

Took me so long to find myself. Only to lose myself.

Love is a surrender, But how deep do you give?  The threat of heartbreak I don't want to relive.

I want to love freely. But the possibility of the hurt and pain doesn't let me.

Do I have to change, but I want to be me. Is waiting for someone who fully accepts me a fantasy?

Very strong and truthful piece of writing. Love like life is a journey one takes alone. I can only talk of my own experience and perspective. One can not fully love until one loves themselves first. Love with no expectations and you will be less disappointed when one does not meet your standards. And give only as much as you get for love should always be equal. Because when the heart breaks only love can heal it. The giving of love is the taking of a piece of you that you can not get back unless that love is returned in kind. These were lessons I learned in my life, but each heart is different. I hope your journey with this human of emotions is not as painful and difficult as it has been for others. Thank you for sharing your truthful poem with us.

Carlos. Thank you so much for your kind words. Love is definitely complex and we must learn many lessons a long the way. However, I do agree with the statement that it's better to have loved than to never have loved. Each experience brings us closer to discovering what we truelly seek. Love is definitely healing and in my near future I see that love in my life that I can give and receive.

I often don't like love poems becuz they depict love in all the trite predictable ways. That's why I LOVE your love poem, becuz it depicts love in lots of jumbled-up contrasting ways. It's always a struggle to love another human beings, we can be so tough to love. You show that inner struggle so well here. I can't believe that in the past month I met you & Carlos here at the cafe, both from Salinas, & I live pretty close by, about an hour drive up into the Ventana Wilderness. If you have love of self in life, then it is possible to give love to another. But it is also a struggle... because sometimes you just want to be you... and you're not able to give, so it becomes an inner struggle....you ask these deep questions to yourself...how deep do you have to go? Can't I be free? Well in a relationship, it's not always that easy. Very deep and honest.

don't ever compromise yourself for anyone or anything. be true to yourself and good things will find you in the most unexpected ways. to love is it to be vulnerable but that is the beauty of it and what makes it special and worthwhile ... :)

Pete, Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me. It is much appreciated it. Your comment made me remember a phrase from a book I read where Jesus tells us that when we are vulnerable is when his presence is stronger in us. Love can be painful at times but so worth living :)

Thank you Pete your words have touched me to my core. I recently had someone dear to my heart, who was bipolar die of cancer. She was a very unique, passionate and strong woman. May the lord have her in his Glory and bring comfort to her daughter's heart.
