No Face

No Face

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

For she has no face to express her soul with.

"

There is a mask

she wears.

She puts it on in the morning

like a fresh coat of makeup

to hide the flaws underneath.

She takes it off at night

before she rests

in a world of floating

and swirling reveries.

She follows a repetitious routine

of “off-and-on.”

She is no the sweet mask

she appears to be.

Some days she dons

a fickle mask,

unpredictable and impulsive

to the world

who thought her otherwise.

Scratching,

tearing,

the faces of others

in search of her own.

For she has no face

to express her soul with.

Thus, her heart is cold,

disguised by sweetness

or rage.

To hide the hurt within.

Masks are a part of life I am afraid, I feel we all own at least one worn to hide the real us the one afraid of hurt or rejection. Only through time and trust do we ever leave the mask where it belongs upon the ballroom floor and truely enjoy the party. Your friend needs not the mask she/he only needs to know that someone has their backs. keep em' coming
