A Poem by redd Brick Keshner

This poem bares its teeth: a hyena,
laughter breaking in jagged bursts,
circling the margins,
menace felt in scuffling shadows.

From the dust it stirs,
half-laughter, half-watch,
a shuffle of shadows
breaking into frisk

rising upright: a meerkat,
eyes darting across horizons,
paws quick in sudden scurry,
a hesitant vigil before burrowing.

Between circling and scurry,
menace and play intertwine,
scarfing fragments into chorus
stretching across Savannah plains.

I wonder if this was truly your thinking or might perchance have been caused by doodling a hyena in the margins?
If like me then I already know the answer. So if you ever read a piece of mine about eyes or cartoon people then you know my secret! 😀
And yes, i too heard the hyena laugh at your mere mention of it, but don't worry, I managed to peel myself off the ceiling at imagining it standing behind me as I read it.
😀
