A Poem by redd Brick Keshner

“Chapbook to Online”

The stapled spine once held
a handful of pages,
ink pressed into paper
like a secret carried in pockets.

Hands exchanged them quietly,
a folded gift at readings,
each cover a doorway
to a room of gathered breath.

Now the screen glows,
scroll replaces turning,
a poem arrives in fragments
through feeds and forums.

The poet turns to upload,
sharing instead of folding,
their lines dispersed
like lanterns across a shifting sky.

Still, the act persists-
to write, to release,
to find another presence
in the drift of changing times.

If I can just quietly correct a misapprehension here please. Publishing on Kindle is not vanity publishing. Amazon does not charge for producing EBooks on their Systems - and they also pay standard Booksellers Royalties on Sales. Thanks for yr time Guys ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

I remember how people said that kindle wouldn't catch on because the touch of paper would be lost, but it didn't quite stop them from becoming quite a big deal company, even with their terrible customer service.
Now people are falling over themselves to self publish, which was called vanity publishing before Amazon came along and se their work in print, despite it only seemingly to make Amazon money. Its just as well no one expects to get rich writing poetry, yet still the vanity persists.
Bring back chapbooks says this dinosaur. Is there any more joyous feeling to see amateur printers eyeing out a living by keeping this tradition going?

Write and release, much like catch and release.
Poems have their own lives once we share them...
and they light their own way and sometimes light others' way.
