The flat

The flat

A Poem by DrD

I lived in the flat long after you had gone

I welcomed each of its inconveniences because

The aura of you yet lingered there

And I could not leave.

And always was the nagging thought

What if you returned and I was gone?

What if I was not there

When our love came home?

This was, after all, where we began

In a time when reality was a stranger

And days were marked by love and laughter

When we concentrated on the important things

Like cotton candy, walks by moonlight and bicycles

Where you came with happy kisses, quick, like samples

For no reason other than that they needed giving

And we needed each other and called it love

I kept everything in its place for your return

Your half-empty shampoo in the bathroom

And my pajama top under your pillow

I kept everything because love that comes back

Never really went away and without your love

I can do nothing, but with your love

There is nothing I cannot do

Even if it is waiting in a shabby room forever

Thank you for being here and leaving such kind words.
(What if you returned and I was gone?
What if I was not there
When our love came home?)
even if you'll say that i'm stupidly emotional i'll have to say that i cried after reading this poem, it'sbeautifully pure.

Thank you, Aurora. Glad to see you here.
So melancholy and charming at the same time. Reflections of a love that lives in the heart, sweet.

I appreciate your visit, Frieda and your kind words.
Awwww, so loving and sad. You painted a vivid picture for the imagination; I can imagine a lonely guy roaming a shabby apartment, searching for the scent of his lost love.

Loved the lines, seems so lovely to be so in love, and after a time our minds only recall the love. your story is always light and wonderful, tell us of a stormy time, surely there must have been one.

Read MOODS. . . . it was one of those . . . ..
wow, i love your love [poems, you just make it sound so simple even when it is real complicated. i loved the easiness in this poem, she was gone but you knew that she would be back soon, kept on waiting...
lets hope you never waited forever, lol
anyway, i loved the core point of it!!
