People and flowers

People and flowers

A Poem by DrD

She wore flowers in her hair

She did, she really did

And with arms spread open

She whirled to the anthems of peace

In the days when rock was rock

And music came with a message

She believed that life was beautiful

And governments were ugly

In a time when men killed their brothers

Because someone called them enemy

And she had a host of brothers

Who lived with her in nature’s embrace

She wore a peasant blouse

And a knitted vest, and gypsy skirt

And sandals that let her feel the earth

She joined in songs about love

Not the love of the heart

But a love for all hearts everywhere

There were campfire circles with song and prayer

With women, faces unpainted

Adorn with smiles and closed eyes of joy

As they became part of the wind where grasses sang

Where love was made under a witness sun

And everyone knew what they did was right

But the clock and calendar turned like quicksand

And man continued his chants of war

Children came and the chains of survival

Bound them to the walls of society

And she changed her flowers for a flowered apron

And the people of God were no more

Thanks for visiting. I appreciate your kind words.
Love it. Reminds me of my parents and their younger days, days they now regret.

Blub, I knew that woman well. She still sings in her heart though I'm sure...there's got to be hope if she has flowers on her damn apron!

Sigh, where did all our dreams go? And what drudgery of time tempted us to swop flowers in our hair for a flowered apron?

You are breaking my heart hear...
Dr D, I need medication to take this pain...
Every poem breaks my heart again. I don't know how you do it?
She lives in your poetry my friend. She is dancing in the hearts of your readers.
You steal my tears and piss me off in such a lovely way.

The days of truth, exploration of self and humanity. Never to be seen again.
Seasons and reasons come and go
And no one is the same as before

I wore a peace symbol, and sandals
Danced in the rain
I cried for those that gave their best
And struggled over times of unrest

Once again you tell your story, and once again I understand ..

I hear you .. You are so good .. Jazz
