I promise

I promise

A Poem by DrD

Without tasting your lips
Or holding your hand
My only offering is words
But they are words of promise
Promises weighing heavily on my heart

I promise to ruin your lipstick
But never your mascara
I will take you for better or worse
But never for granted
And my heart will always be at home

You will not be my first love
But certainly the last
And if I ever love another woman
I promise
It will be our daughter

And I have not yet tasted your lips
So may I?
I have not walked with your hand in mine
Will you give it?
If so, we will walk together toward forever

You build hope for humanity in poetry like this. We shine brightest when we are vulnerable enough to love this completely.
Anouther great poem!

Wow! With promises like those, how could any woman say no? I love how you describe what you will and won't do in each instance. I chuckled at the "lipstick" part. I think any woman would love her lipstick ruined.. and so dear to heart, the proposal. This is a magnificent poem, filled with endearment, love, passion and warmth.
