Santa MargheritaA Poem by DrDIf we were back again in Santa Margherita The whitecaps would be announcing A new chill upon the waters For it is autumn And the last leaves would be applauding With gentle reminder winds. We would take the evening train North to the River Po And watch the water Move upon itself toward somewhere. We would communicate In silence and with whispers As if not wanting a second shared Or by sound have it blemished.
There would be hungry kisses Your eyes filled with invitation And you would be more beautiful Than all your yesterdays. And the boasts of diamond stars The wind songs through tall grasses The dance of fireflies And the chorus of crickets All would be in praise of us As we imitate the gods With each thrill and thrust. Surely it would be so, I dream, More surely than time or tide, If we were back again in Santa Margherita © 2013 DrD |
