One Day

One Day

A Poem by DrD

There is a place where little girls go

Although they never know the way

Like bread crumbs from the tale of old

They leave giggles and Barbies and play.

The route is well marked with symbols and hints

The first turn past the training bra

Go on to the tears when he wasn’t the prince

To the prom and the woman now viewed with awe.

There is a place where little girls go

And they never know how to return

They forget the crossroad and signals although

It was there life’s first lessons were learned.

To some love is only a word to be said

To bring pleasures for the moment or less

And loneliness follows, the half empty bed

And she curses the whispered “yes”

There is a place where little girls go

To listen for echoes of the past

In a rocking chair they watch and know

Little girls take the same worn path.

They will step into the circle of arms

And know their future’s secure

But fate and fancy erase all the charms

And they have only themselves to endure.

There is a place where little girls go

Past the rainbow, the unicorn and more

Where love only knows how to grow

With laughter, and kisses galore.

And no matter what life puts in her days

She dwells in that secret domain

Where but a thought brings a smile to her face

Because one day she’ll go back there again.
