AmenA Poem by DrDHer smile was as false as a warm winter day As coy little words were pushed over her tongue Like spring sparlings just learning to fly And everything I said was funny Everything I had done in my life was fascinating. It only lacked a stage and curtain This dinner with a friend of a friend Struggling to be interesting by pretending to be interested As I measured the eternity toward dessert.
“Tell me about yourself,” as she cradled her chin on her fist “I want to know everything,” she added “absolutely all.” Okay, I’ll tell you my heart beats over those shards of glass Some call memories that still bleed when called upon. And they force cruel comparisons between what was And everything you would ever hope to be. They paint portraits of the one that was who knew That “absolute all” about me because she was its creator. And the waiter comes with pastries as I recite, “Amen.” © 2014 DrDReviews
