REVISITINGA Poem by DrDLost love remembranceIn 1974, we
bought an ancient convent In Santa
Margherita, Italy Restored it and
lived there for 2 years. Three weeks
ago, I drove from Milan To the old
convent And ate a
cheese sandwich in the kitchen. I didn’t come
to see the place. Behind the
convent is a small chapel And beneath it
dozens of nuns are buried. And behind it
is one grave My Annette lies
there. I brought no
flowers The dead
receive more flowers Than the living Because regret
is stronger than gratitude. I have no
regrets If love could
have saved her She would have
lived forever. I only sat
there To feel my
grief that never waned And to know she
would scold me for it © 2023 DrD |
