A Fool's Gold

A Fool's Gold

Elderly Man In A Wheelchair by Science Photo Library
A Fool's Gold
the glow of knotty pine
grows cold around me.

i've lost my mojo it seems

people look at me as if i were feeble
a child minded grey person

i wonder what race that is??
(one to the grave i suppose)

how cold               now   i am alone and
it's fingers and knees that are knotty

"That will be $10.50 sweety"             (she says with a smile)
and adds ... (twisting her lips just a twitch)

poor old soul.

Dear Mr E, let me compliment you first on your choice of music, I am a huge fan of Neil Young, and this particular track is a fav.

As to your poem, ah the aging process, happens to us all:) Young people think anyone over 40 is ancient!

As to that poor old soul, I wish he could deliver a bit of a shock to her with the smile and the twisted lip. Would love to see him jump up and boogie :)))

Yeah, once you pass a certain age it is all downhill. I could give you a laundry list of all the ways my body has gone haywire. I hope to go into old age kicking and screaming but I fear I can only manage the screaming. Here's to better days and better poetry!

"Poor old soul." Yet, most of us dare dream of living forever. If only we could fix that aging problem. Haha great write.

I shouldn't be but i am smiling at this poem ; all my working life i was a carer in residential homes for the elderly and dementia sufferers , i loved it but all the kind things and names i called the old folks are the names the younger generation now call me. ( Sweetheart .... Flower ... My love .... ) lol
80 now , i find it incredible i am that age !

Ah dropping in on my favorite writer from Pork Rind. Glad I dropped in on this piece. I too am getting the poor old soul routine. The years of living have been catching up with me and my body is failing. However it's my heart that keeps me going. Well written my friend, this may have inspired my next write as well

"Old man take a look at my life...I'm a lot like you were"....those words mean more to me today than they did when I was in college. Too often older people are seen as lumps of clay in wheelchairs. The truth is, they have so much knowledge to share if only we ask them to. Very compassionate write, E. Lydi**
