A Monstrous Beauty

A Monstrous Beauty

The Monstrous Beauty of Louise Bourgeois's Late Textiles

A Monstrous Beauty

This is the grey that starts                  it
     rainbow colors pushed aside
Fear, anger and fingers point the way

I look into the wood and piney glades to
   find the furry p***y
                          willow buds
I want to brush them up against this ...

my hidden monster's intent to
    heal me

(who am i to fool?)

a great heart cracks ... it
     bleeds evermore

I am undone.
There is no fragrance in p***y willows.

P***y willows....I remember them in our New Jersey garden. There is a dichotomy here of the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other. You paint a bleak picture of inner turmoil and anxiety. You can not fool yourself...at least not for long. E, this one is a powerful write....almost a war of good vs. evil. Very good....Lydi***

I love the metaphor you used in your emotionally charged words. I found the line "There is no fragrance in p***y willows" especially striking - poking holes in romantic notions with a resigned realism. Great writing and a pleasure to read. :) Julie

Such anguish my friend, even the P***y Willow is not balm enough to chase away the monsters that lurk....

We used to have p***y willows growing in the ditch at the end of our yard. They are a curious plant and I have no idea why they no longer grow there. I sense in this poem that there is something dark longing to find something of beauty. I will remind you of the words of Keats. Beauty is truth and truth, beauty. This is all you need to know!

Indeed there is not, I have sniffed them on several occasions and never detected a scent. The color grey starts this poem as it says pushing aside the rainbow colors. And what is the symbol of the rainbow but a biblical promise, unfulfilled in my mind. The p***y willow symbol of rebirth and protection soft but still grey that color neither black or white. And the question is what monster is it protecting you from? Well done my friend

wow. powerful. there is a strength in innocence and your well-chosen words demonstrate it. i can picture those freshly trimmed p***y willows sitting in a vase of water speaking an immutable truth.
