Every decade or so there is a coven or worse that wants less or more of what there is holding the flag, banner or top seat at a damned noisy discussion. Your words - fine poetry, repeat what was and ever is tidal. There are few politics that ever melt, dissolve or linger silently - more's the pity. I wonder if cavemen suffered the same when it came cudgel-knocking when canvassing. Politics is permanently on a low heat waiting for its opportunity - so help us.. .. best stay under the covers if sanity is your 'must have'
Einstein I think I have commented on all of your poems so I will take the chance to reread some. (Write some new ones you are quite talented and it is a shame not to employ it on new work) Upon rereading this poem I see more from the perspective of a bit later and how things have changed but remained the same how they tell us things are better but they seem worse "old odd demons" indeed. Then almost prophetic ten years germination time. Eyes wide shut indeed. It is what we do not want to see that we turn a blind eye to. This seems to apply more to today than yesterday

We indeed have not learned from our remembered comfortable youth, have we? This poem reveals that stark non-cosy reality so well. The use of the granny metaphor is particularly relevant.

It seems that we have not learned much over the years as mankind and that we still pull the covers over our head pretending that its blindness will keep us safe. Mankind a child that has not grown up. It is only in unity and accepting every other as a brother that we may gain security. A long way off, too much greed. A wonderful write

Perhaps Marx felt comfort in his version of socialism, gleaned from his reading at the British museum. He could not have foreseen that his writing would spawn Lenin and Stalin.

Those folks of Yorkshire, England have a saying E, that there's "nowt as queer as folk", meaning there is nothing stranger than people and it was my first thought on reading your words.
All I know is that I truly pity the youth when once I was jealous of them. They are the ones that will be living a dystopian life straight out of 1984.
It takes the kind of mess we find ourselves in now to make you realise that maybe its best we are nearer the end than the start of our lives and can remember times when hope was real.
Granny's hand made quilt comforted us, but flump knows what will comfort youth, as they start to sell off body parts just to survive.
Good luck with that and I'll see you on the other side, says I. 😃

Burning and looting by demonstrators has never made sense to me. If they were in the countries they seem to love, they would be killed for doing this. Sometimes sleep under a homemade quilt is the only peace we have...even if it is restless sleep. It does seem that the left is increasingly adopting communism and socialism....and I fear for our grandchildren. E, this one is powerful. Lydi**

This is fascinating, like a preamble to A Tale of Two Cities: It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. It seems to me now that I've aged that every road leads to folly; it's like a forest that burns down periodically to start anew.
