Unrequited Love - Conversation with Mother

'That was somewhat thoughtless', said Mother looking more than a bit annoyed. 
'I know mom...'he began mechanically and then suddenly his face focused and he smiled and said: 'I know, but I care very much about her and...'. His voice trailed off for a second and then he completed the sentence in something of a rush: 'and she doesn't know and I don't know what to do about it.'
