Such an ebony hour as this
re-paints sweet hue of stolen bliss.

Night's satin sheet rises
to awaken passion's escaping sighs
yet normal day over
finds darkness demands high risks.

Fugitive love plays
alluring games when two crave fire.

Re-created are thrills
for hidden in twilight's illegal kisses
double-coupled desire
keeps need alive for the clandestine.

Yet honesty ends when
ardour replaces that which it misses.

Lovers world-over
delight in a tryst that is kept secret.

Such covert of night
converts nectar's taste into paradise.

Yet ever will tears
be shed over lies woven into deceit.

Fay, this poem speaks as completely as any can about the lure and pit of such trysts. It is a deliverance that delivers nothing good long-term. Every secret requires another to keep it, and at least one undercover is forever made number 2, like the one left alone at home or wherever. As you create so well here, the appeal is often irresistible. But, then there's the truth in your last stanza.

This reminds me of a time in my life when I was into having more than one lover at a time & the game of keeping them separate (which I didn't work at very hard) was as much fun as any actual tryst itself. Similarly, this can be the motivation for some who step out on a steady love or marriage partner . . . the thrill/possibility of getting caught adding as much to the mix as the silk sheets & cognac.
